Chorionic Villous Sampling (CVS)

Chorionic Villous Sampling (CVS)

CVS is an ultrasound-guided procedure where a sample from the placenta is obtained by inserting a thin needle in the maternal abdomen. Local anaesthesia is used to anesthetise the skin at the insertion site prior to the procedure. The CVS is associated with a small risk of miscarriage (1:450) above the background risk.
