Scans done after 26 weeks of gestation are called growth scans or fetal well-being scans where the growth of the baby, amniotic fluid, and Doppler are checked. An anatomy survey for anomalies developing later on in the pregnancy is also part of these scans.
These scans are done routinely in the majority of patients and are especially important in cases of suspicion of fetal growth restriction, or maternal conditions affecting the baby’s growth, for example, diabetes, hypertension, kidney or liver problem, infection, or surveillance of previously detected anomalies which are potentially treatable or may evolve later on.
